All you need are two simple ingredients to make our copycat Frosted Coffee recipe; cold brew coffee and vanilla ice cream! We are huge coffee fans and are constantly trying new cold coffee drinks out and then coming up with our own homemade versions.

While we do enjoy occasionally getting drinks out at our favorite coffee shops, I like to make them at home to save money. Also, because sometimes I want my coffee fix without having to leave the house.

One mason jar mug filled with Frosted coffee, there is a silver straw in it.

When trying to replicate a coffee shop beverage I check the website to see if I can get a list of the ingredients. Then I just need to figure out the ratio of how much of each ingredient I am going to use. I learned on the Chick-fil-A website that their frosted coffee consists of cold brew coffee and vanilla soft serve ice cream. So, it’s basically a coffee milkshake. YUM!

While looking around at the grocery store for what kind of ice cream to use I came across Blue Bunny Soft Vanilla (not an affiliate link, just showing you what I use) and I knew this would be the perfect ice cream to use. It’s soft like what the restaurant uses.

I have found that the best way to mix this up is by hand. So there’s no need for a blender. Plus, no washing the blender pitcher! Chick-fil-A also describes their frosted coffee as hand-spun so it’s closer to what you can get there.

    What is a frosted coffee?

Frosted coffee is a coffee drink blended with ice cream, similar to a milkshake. Coffee blended with ice cream is typically a sweet and creamy beverage. It’s the perfect way to enjoy coffee during the summer months.

What is in a frosted coffee from Chick-fil-A?

The Chick-fil-A website describes their Frosted Coffee as a hand-spun treat that combines a custom blend of cold-brewed coffee with their signature vanilla Icedream® dessert.

The ice cream and a mason jar with cold brew coffee to make the Best Easy Copycat Chick-fil-A Frosted Coffee Recipe.

    Ingredient Notes

cold brew coffee – we make our own cold-brewed coffee concentrate (it’s an easy recipe using just regular coffee grounds, water, and a mason jar!) but you could certainly use store bought. Or even brewed strong coffee that’s cooled down.

ice cream – as I said above, we use Blue Bunny Soft Vanilla because it is the closest substitute for Chick-fil-A’s Icedream.

How to make a frosted coffee

    1. Put the ice cream and coffee in a large measuring cup or other pitcher.
    2. Mix by hand with a large spoon until the mixture is the consistency of a milkshake.
    3. Pour into a tall glass and enjoy!

Recipe Note – as you can see in the photos our frosted coffee is much lighter than the restaurant version. That is because our ice cream is white. If you use an ice cream that is more yellowish it will change the overall color of the finished drink.

    Optional garnishments

Top with whipped cream then chocolate shavings, or a drizzle of chocolate syrup, white chocolate sauce, or caramel sauce.

Other flavors of ice cream to use in frosted coffee

French vanilla ice cream or chocolate ice cream would be delicious. For intense coffee flavor coffee ice cream can be used.

What ice cream should you use if you can’t find Blue Bunny Soft

Any brand will work! If it is regular hard ice cream you can either use more coffee to make it the right consistency. If you don’t want to add more coffee flavor you can use whole milk, 2% milk or low fat milk to thin it down.

How to make dairy free frosted coffee

Breyers and So Delicious make dairy free ice cream. Then you can use the alternative milk of your choice, such as soy milk, oat milk, or almond milk.
