Ingredients

  • 1 cup toffee bits
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  • Put water, sugar and toffee bits into a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat, reduce to low-medium heat and simmer for about 7 minutes or until most of the toffee has melted. Give it a good stir occasionally with a heat proof spoon or spatula.
1 cup toffee bits, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup water
  • Let cool 10-15 minutes.
  • Strain it using a mesh strainer or cheesecloth, I use a small metal strainer. Pour into an airtight bottle or mason jar.

Notes

After the mixture comes to a boil you want it to simmer, according to Merriam-Webster “The meaning of SIMMER is to stew gently below or just at the boiling point”. That is usually somewhere around medium low to medium heat, depending on your stove.
As the syrup cools the small pieces of nuts rise to the top and a gel-like substance collects on the top. You can skim it off or just shake it up to mix it back in before you use it. It really is personal preference because it is totally edible and tasty.
