Loose Meat Sandwiches (maid rites)

If you’ve never had Loose Meat Sandwiches (maid-rites), you’re in for a treat! They're messy, juicy, and totally flavor-packed. Sometimes called Iowa Maid Rite Sandwiches, they're the ultimate easy lunch or dinner. Made with tender ground beef, sautéed onion, and a splash of soy sauce and steak sauce, each bite is hearty, savory, and totally satisfying.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef 85/15
  • 1 small onion
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tbsp steak sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 cube beef bouillon
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns

Instructions

  • Cook the ground beef and onion in a skillet over medium heat until the meat is browned and the onion is softened.

  • Add the water, steak sauce, soy sauce, bouillon, and black pepper. Stir to combine, then bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.

  • Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the flavors are well combined and the liquid has mostly reduced.
