Ingredients

  • 3 ¼ cups all purpose flour
  • 1 packet instant dry yeast .25 ounce
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 ¼ cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  • Whisk the flour, yeast, and salt together in a large bowl.
3 ¼ cups all purpose flour, 1 packet instant dry yeast, 2 teaspoons salt
  • Stir the warm water and olive oil together in a measuring cup
1 ¼ cup warm water (about 110°F), 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Pour the water mixture into the flour mixture and stir, scraping down the sides of the bowl, until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1–3 hours, or until doubled in size.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and cut it in half. Shape each half into a ball.
  • Use or store: Use the dough immediately to make your favorite pizza, or cover and refrigerate it for up to 3 days. You can also freeze it for up to 3 months. Follow the baking instructions in the pizza recipe you're making.

Notes

Warm water: Hot tap water is often hotter than ideal for yeast. For best results, use water between 110°F and 120°F. An instant-read thermometer makes it easy to check. If you don't have one, mix the warm water with the olive oil and let it cool for 5–10 minutes before adding it to the flour mixture.
Yeast: One packet of instant yeast contains about 2¼ teaspoons.
