Air Fryer Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich is my new favorite snack. The crispy bread, gooey peanut butter, and warm jelly are delightful! The one food that I ate regularly as a child and still eat regularly as an adult is the classic peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Four halves of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches stacked on top of each other with the recipe title at the top so it can be pinned on Pinterest.

I used to toast my bread in the toaster and then spread the peanut butter on it just as soon as it came out because I love the melty peanut butter. Since the invention of the air fryer I can just make my sandwich, pop it in the air fryer and in just a few minutes have one of the yummiest peanut butter and jelly sandwiches ever. Our air fryer has enough room for two sandwiches and there are two of us so it works out perfectly.

    Ingredient Notes

You just need 4 basic ingredients that you probably have on hand right now.

See recipe card for approximate amounts.

Bread – we like good ol’ cheap store brand white bread for this particular recipe.

Peanut Butter – I like creamy peanut butter and chunky peanut butter so we use both. My favorite peanut butter is Jif.

Jelly or Jam – we use our favorites, grape jelly and strawberry jelly most of the time but have used many different flavors.

Butter – I buy plant based 45% vegetable oil spread and it works great.

How to Make the Best Air Fryer PB&J Sandwiches

    1. Assemble the sandwiches by spreading about 1 tablespoon of peanut butter onto one slice of bread and 1 tablespoon of jelly on the other slice. Close the sandwich and butter one side of the outside of the sandwich, place in the air fryer basket butter side down and butter the other side.
    2. Cook at 400° for 4 minutes, flip and cook another 3 minutes or until golden brown.

Do I Need To Preheat The Air Fryer Before Making Air Fried PB & J’s

I do not preheat the air fryer. If you are making more than one batch of pb&j sandwiches then you may have to adjust the cooking time down a bit for subsequent batches because it will be warmed up.

    Variations

Use your favorite jelly, jam or preserves.

Try a different nut butter. Cashew butter and almond butter are available at most grocery stores.

Switch the type of bread. Whole wheat bread, multigrain bread, low carb bread and gluten free bread are all excellent choices for a healthier air fryer peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Swap the jelly with slices of banana for a yummy treat.

    Tips & Tricks

Spread a thin layer of peanut butter and jelly on the slices of bread. If you make it like a regular pbj sandwich it will likely be a mess. The melted peanut butter tends to ooze out all over the place. Very tasty, but a huge mess. This is especially important if you are feeding little kids because they make a mess anyway and you probably don’t want sticky peanut butter and jelly all over everything.

If you are cutting the sandwich up then let it set up 1-2 minutes so the filling doesn’t just ooze out all over the place when you cut it.

Why We Love Easy Air Fryer Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches

    • Warm peanut butter and jelly on toasted bread is perfect with a hot cup of coffee or a tall glass of ice cold milk.
    • Air frying them takes this classic sandwich to the next level.
    • Not only do they make a great snack they also make a comforting breakfast sandwich.
    • Children that are too little to cook on the stove top can make them.
    • It is a quick and easy way to have a warm breakfast.
