Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
- Pizza Crust: I use Jus-Rol premade crust because it has the perfect texture for this pizza. You’ll usually find it in the refrigerated section of the grocery store.
- Ground Beef: I go with lean ground beef because it’s better for us and doesn’t require draining. Ground turkey or chicken can be used, just spray the skillet with nonstick spray so it doesn’t stick.
- Refried Beans: These add great texture, flavor, and a little extra nutrition to the pizza.
- Cheese: I use cheddar cheese, but you can swap in any variety you like. Pepper jack or Monterey jack cheese would be delicious alternatives.
- Lettuce: Iceberg lettuce is the classic taco choice, but romaine or mixed greens will make it a bit more elevated.
- Tomatoes: Roma tomatoes are my go-to, but any type of chopped tomato will work just fine.
- Salsa: We stick with our favorite store-bought salsa to keep things simple and quick.
- Seasonings: I season my beef with chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. For a shortcut, you can use a packet of taco seasoning instead.
Optional Additions
We keep things simple with our favorite taco toppings, but here are some other tasty ideas to mix things up:
- Sour cream
- Black olives
- White, red or green onions
- Crushed corn or tortilla chips
