Make homemade roasted peppers in the air fryer in about 13 minutes! The skin of the pepper blisters giving us perfect charred edges and the smoky flavor we love.

You can air fry just about any type of pepper you can think of. Red bell peppers, green bell peppers, yellow bell peppers and orange bell peppers are great for roasting. Plus, chile peppers like Anaheim peppers, poblano peppers or Hatch green chiles.

Can I roast red peppers in the air fryer?

Absolutely! You can roast virtually any kind of pepper in the air fryer in a much shorter cooking time than oven roasting.

    How to pick fresh peppers

For both bell peppers and chili peppers you want to pick peppers that have vibrant and glossy color. The skin should be smooth, firm and free of wrinkles and soft or black spots.

Store peppers in a cool dry place, or in the refrigerator if you won’t be using them right away.

Do you wash peppers before roasting?

Yes, wash peppers with cold water and dry them thoroughly with paper towels before preparing them to be roasted.

How do you cut red peppers for roasting?

Slice whole peppers in half lengthwise and remove the stem, core and seeds.

How to roast chili peppers in air the fryer?

Anaheim chili peppers are air fried whole in about 16 minutes.

    1. Wash peppers in cold water and dry with a paper towel.
    2. Spritz the air fryer basket with a little olive oil or cooking spray.
    3. Place whole peppers into the air fryer basket in a single layer and cook at 400° for 10 minutes, turn over and cook an additional 6 minutes.
    4. Place the peppers in a vessel and cover with a lid for 10 minutes so the skin becomes easy to peel off.
    5. Peel off skin, cut in half and scrape out the seeds using a spoon.

How to roast bell peppers in the air fryer?

Red, green, orange, or yellow bell peppers are halved and air fried for about 13 minutes.

    1. Wash bell peppers and dry with a paper towel.
    2. Cut in half through the stem then remove the stem, membrane and seeds.
    3. Spritz the air fryer basket with a little olive oil or cooking spray.
    4. Place bell pepper halves into the air fryer basket cut side up in a single layer and cook at 400° for 7 minutes, turn over and cook an additional 6 minutes.
    5. Place the peppers in a vessel and cover with a lid for 10 minutes so the skin becomes easy to peel off.

    Pro Tips

    • When letting the peppers steam so the skin can be removed easily you will need to use a pot with a tight fitting lid. If you don’t have a pan with a tight fitting lid you can use a glass bowl with plastic wrap. The plastic wrap will cling to glass better than plastic.
    • Air fryers may cook differently so you may need to adjust the cook time up or down just a bit.

    Ways to use roasted peppers

Roasted peppers are a great way to add flavor, color, and texture to your favorite dishes. Here are some delicious ideas!

    • Sandwiches and Wraps: Air fryer peppers go great with chicken and turkey and would be great used in wraps or sandwiches.
    • Pasta Dishes: Add roasted red pepper to pasta dishes for a burst of flavor and color, they work particularly well in creamy sauces.
    • Salads: Toss chopped roasted peppers into fresh salads for a sweet and smoky flavor.
    • Pizza Toppings: Use roasted peppers as a pizza topping to add a delicious sweetness and depth of flavor to the pizza.
    • Dips and Spreads: Add a vibrant color and a hint of smokiness to hummus, baba ganoush, tapenade, or cream cheese spread.
    • Soups and Stews: Mix roasted peppers into your favorite soup or stew to add tons of flavor.
    • Tacos and Quesadillas: They complement other ingredients such as grilled vegetables, beans, cheese, and salsa in tacos, quesadillas, burritos or burrito bowls.
    • Egg Dishes: Chop roasted bell peppers and add them to omelets, scrambled eggs, or frittatas for additional flavor.
    • Sauces and Marinades: Blended peppers can enhance the flavor of barbecue sauce, marinade for grilled meats, or pasta sauce.

How to store air fryer roasted peppers

Make sure the peppers are completely cooled to room temperature before storing. Store peppers in an airtight container, like a mason jar or zip top plastic bag, in the refrigerator for 3-4 days, 5 tops.

They can be stored in olive oil for about a week.

How to roast peppers on the grill

Cut bell peppers in half and brush with olive oil, canola oil, corn oil, or avocado oil. Any oil with a high smoke point will work, verywell fit has a great article that breaks down what oils have a higher smoke point, if you want to check that out. Roast peppers for about 5 minutes per side until the skin is blistered and charred and the flesh is tender.

How to roast peppers on an electric stove in a frying pan

Roast cut peppers in a dry nonstick skillet or cast iron skillet over medium to medium-high heat turning as needed until all sides of the peppers are charred and the flesh is tender.

How to roast peppers on a gas stove

Roast peppers whole on a medium flame by using tongs to place the pepper on the grate of the gas burner over the open flame. Turn as necessary until all sides are black and the flesh is tender.
