These breadsticks made with pizza dough are perfect as an appetizer or snack for pizza night. They also make an easy side dish for soup, chili, or pasta.

    Ingredient Notes

See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts.

The pizza dough, shredded mozzarella cheese, butter, garlic powder and Italian seasoning measured out to make the pizza dough breadsticks.
    • Pizza dough: I use my easy No-Knead Pizza Dough, but store-bought pizza dough also works.
    • Cheese: We like freshly shredded mozzarella, but you can use pre-shredded mozzarella or another cheese you like.
    • Butter: I use either unsalted butter or margarine.
    • Seasoning: The butter is seasoned simply with garlic powder and Italian seasoning.

How to Make Breadsticks with Pizza Dough

Here’s a quick overview of the main steps. Scroll or jump down to the recipe card for complete instructions.

The spread out pizza dough with melted butter and spices on it.

Press the pizza dough onto the parchment-lined baking sheet and brush with the seasoned melted butter.

Cheese and additional Italian seasoning on top of the buttered pizza dough so it's ready to go into the oven.

Top with mozzarella and additional Italian seasoning. Bake, then cut into breadsticks.

Tips for the Best Pizza Dough Breadsticks

    • Let cold pizza dough sit at room temperature for a few minutes if it keeps springing back while you’re stretching it.
    • Don’t worry about making a perfect rectangle.
    • Cut the breadsticks as wide or narrow as you like. Mine are fairly wide, but you can get more servings by cutting them narrower.
    • Freshly grated mozzarella melts best but pre-shredded is a great shortcut.
    • Watch them near the end because the cheese can brown quickly.

    Storage and Reheating

These breadsticks are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

For best results, reheat in the oven or air fryer to keep their crispiness. They can be reheated in the microwave but will be soft.

What to Serve with Pizza Dough Breadsticks

Serve these breadsticks alongside my Pepperoni Pizza or Chicken Bacon Ranch Pizza for an easy homemade pizza night.

They also make a great side for a hearty bowl of Chili Mac or Italian Sausage Tortellini Soup.
