This Avocado Lime Ranch Dressing features ripe avocado, freshly squeezed lime juice, milk, mayo, Greek yogurt and ranch seasoning. It’s perfect for topping salads, wraps, tacos or burritos as well as a great salad dressing and dipping sauce.

This homemade dressing recipe is inspired by Chick-fil-A. It’s really not a copycat recipe, because my version has a thicker, creamier texture than the restaurant version. It’s my absolute favorite dressing and I order it every time we go to Chick-fil-A.

I just had to come up with my own homemade version so I can enjoy it whenever I want. Plus, it’s made with just 6 simple ingredients, and you can mix it by hand—no food processor needed!

    Ingredient Notes

avocados – make sure to use ripe avocados, they will be firm with a slight give when pressed.

lime juice – I use fresh limes, the bottled type can be used in a pinch.

milk – whole milk or low-fat milk both work.

mayonnaise – regular fat, olive oil, low calorie of low fat can be used.

yogurt – I use plain Greek yogurt to make this a little better for us.

ranch dressing mix – we love Hidden Valley and are pretty loyal to it. Use your favorite or see the FAQ section below to use a combination of dried herbs and spices.

How to make avocado lime ranch dressing

    1. In a medium bowl mash the avocado and lime juice.
    2. Add the milk, mayo, yogurt and seasoning packet and whisk until smooth so that no large chunks of avocado remain.
A collage of 4 images, the avocado and lime juice before and after being mashed and the other ingredients added before and after being mixed together.

    How to store leftover dressing

Store in an airtight container, we use a mason jar, in the refrigerator for up to a week.

    Substitutions and additions

    • Swap the milk with buttermilk for a tangier dressing.
    • Swap the Greek yogurt for sour cream.
    • Add in a dash of cumin or chili powder.
    • A touch of cayenne pepper would add a little heat.
    • Throw some fresh cilantro or Italian parsley for a bit more freshness.
    • To use regular plain yogurt decrease the amount of milk to 1 cup.

    Serving suggestions

    • Use as a topping on salads, wraps, tacos, burritos, and grilled or fried meats such as chicken strips or fish.
    • This makes a tasty dipping sauce for your favorite veggies or tortilla chips.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How much dressing does this recipe make?

You will get 3 cups total and that would be 24 servings of 2 tablespoons each.

    Is avocado ranch dressing healthy?

The avocados are packed with heart-healthy fats, as well as vitamin E and potassium. The lime juice provides vitamin C, and you can use a healthier version of mayo. The yogurt adds protein, probiotics, and calcium. To make this recipe as nutritious as possible, opt for dried herbs and spices instead of the ranch dressing packet to reduce sodium and additives.

What is the shelf-life of Avocado Lime Ranch Dressing?

If stored properly this dressing is good for 5-7 days. Discard if it starts to turn brown.

Can I use a combination of herbs and spices instead of a packet of ranch dressing mix?

Absolutely! You can add 2 tsp dried parsley, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp ground black pepper, 1 tsp garlic powder, and 1/2 tsp onion powder instead of the packet.

This recipe was updated in October 2024. I changed the yogurt to Greek yogurt because it can be found in a single serve container making it more cost effective than having to buy a large container of plain regular yogurt. I also added 1/4 cup more milk to make up for the creamier texture of the Greek yogurt.
