Ingredient Notes for Homemade Coffee Creamer Recipe

    • Heavy Cream: Also called heavy whipping cream, this gives the creamer a rich, creamy texture and thicker consistency than milk alone.
    • Whole Milk: Whole milk keeps the creamer smooth and balanced, but you can substitute 2%, low-fat, or even skim milk if that’s what you have on hand.
    • Sugar: Granulated white sugar keeps the flavor clean and sweet, but brown sugar can be used for a slightly warmer, caramel-like taste.
    • Cake Batter Flavoring: This is the key ingredient that gives the creamer its classic birthday cake flavor without needing extra extracts or sprinkles.

Here’s a quick look at the steps (with photos). You’ll find complete directions and ingredient amounts in the recipe card below.

Whole milk, heavy cream and sugar in a small saucepan before being warmed on the stove.

Place the cream, milk, and sugar in a small saucepan and heat over medium heat until all the sugar dissolves, about 3-4 minutes.

The cake batter flavor added to the saucepan after it was warmed until the sugar dissolved.

Take off the heat and stir in the cake batter extract.

    Serving Suggestions

This homemade birthday cake coffee creamer is delicious in hot coffee, iced coffee, lattes, milkshakes, smoothies, cocktails, Frappuccinos, hot chocolate, or frothed into cold foam.

Thinking outside of the box, here are some other ways to use this creamer:

    • Oatmeal or overnight oats – stir in for a sweet, creamy flavor boost
    • Pancakes or waffles – use in the batter or drizzle over finished pancakes
    • Coffee creamer ice cubes – freeze in trays to make iced coffee that doesn’t get watered down
    • Baking – replace some liquid in cakes, muffins, or cupcakes for a subtle birthday cake flavor
    • Hot cereal – like cream of wheat, oats, farina, or grits
    • Frosting or whipped cream – add a splash to homemade frosting for cakes or cupcakes

    Storage

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5–7 days. Give it a good shake before each use. Discard if it develops an off smell, sour taste, or changes in texture.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use half and half instead of milk and cream in this homemade birthday cake coffee creamer?

Absolutely! Substitute 2½ cups of half and half for the milk and heavy cream. It will still be rich, creamy, and perfectly sweet.

Can I make this birthday cake coffee creamer dairy-free?

Yes! Swap the milk and cream for your favorite non-dairy alternatives. Almond milk, oat milk, coconut milk, and soy milk all work well, and many grocery stores carry dairy-free heavy cream substitutes for a richer texture.

Can I make this homemade birthday cake coffee creamer with a sugar substitute?

Yes, you can use your favorite sugar alternative to make this creamer sugar-free. Use erythritol, monk fruit sweetener, or a your favorite sugar substitute. Keep in mind that some substitutes dissolve differently or may slightly change the flavor, so you may want to adjust to taste.
