In this post I show you how long to bake chicken breast at 350 F so it is moist and tender. This chicken recipe is great to make for an easy dinner or meal prep.

We make juicy oven-baked chicken breasts every single week to take to work for lunch. It is perfect in salad, to use in recipes that call for cooked chicken, to make chicken salad or to eat just the way it is.

We buy chicken breasts in the largest package possible and the size of one chicken breast can range from about 6 ounces to as much as 18 ounces. That is a huge difference and sometimes we buy more than one package so we can weigh them and cook and or freeze like size pieces together.

Why you’ll love this juicy chicken breast recipe

    • Cooking chicken breast only requires a few ingredients.
    • Just a few simple steps are all it takes to make the perfect chicken breast.
    • This flavorful chicken can be used in other recipes that call for cooked chicken, on or in salads or in wraps. Plus there many other uses not mentioned here.
    • Boneless chicken breast is healthy because it is lean and full of protein. There is a great article over at very well fit that gives the nutrition facts of chicken breast.

Is it OK to bake chicken uncovered?

Yes, baking chicken uncovered is easy and the end result is flavorful and juicy chicken.

How long do you bake chicken breast at 350 degrees?

This depends greatly on the size of the chicken breasts, but typically about 30 minutes for a 6-8 ounce chicken breast. See below for approximate cooking time for other size breasts.

    • 10-12 ounces about 35 minutes
    • 12-14 ounces around 40 minutes
    • 16-18 ounces around 45 minutes

    Ingredients

See recipe card for exact amounts.

The raw chicken, salt, pepper, garlic powder, Italian seasoning and olive oil needed to make this recipe.

    Ingredient Notes

boneless skinless chicken breasts – try to find chicken pieces that are as close to the same size as possible.

olive oil – we use regular olive oil, and it is kind of expensive so we typically use the store brand from either Walmart or Aldi. Anything from extra virgin to light tasting work great. Other oil such as canola oil or vegetable oil can be used.

Italian seasoning – this usually has dried oregano, dried basil, dried rosemary, dried thyme, dried marjoram or dried sage.

garlic powder – make sure you are using garlic powder and not garlic salt.

salt – regular table salt, sea salt or kosher salt will work.

black pepper – we buy the restaurant style pepper because it is coarse and not powdery.

How to make this boneless chicken breasts recipe

    1. Preheat the oven to 350°. Line the pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
    2. Trim any fat off of the chicken breasts.
    3. Mix the oil and spices in a large bowl, put the chicken in the bowl and use your hands to rub the oil-spice mixture onto the chicken evenly.
    4. Place the chicken onto the baking sheet in a single layer.
    5. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165° when checked with an instant read meat thermometer.
    6. Let the chicken rest for about 10 minutes before serving.

    Tips

    • I recommend a kitchen scale to weigh the raw chicken so you can select pieces that are within a couple of ounces of each other. We have had one for several years and use if almost daily.
    • While using an instant-read thermometer is the best way to check the chicken for doneness there are other ways to see if it is done. You can cut into the thickest part of the breast to see if it is done. You will need to cook the chicken longer if the juice has a red or pinkish color, you want the juice to be clear.

    Variations

We used our most favorite seasonings in this recipe but we use a variety of different herbs and spices on our chicken. See below for some suggestions of different flavors that can be used.

    • chili powder
    • cumin
    • lemon pepper seasoning
    • onion powder
    • bbq dry rub
    • smoked paprika
    • cayenne pepper

Dried or fresh herbs are also a great addition, just chop the fresh herbs into small pieces.

    • oregano
    • thyme
    • basil
    • sage
    • rosemary
    • poultry seasoning

Do I need to line the pan when making this chicken breast recipe?

No, it is not required, I usually line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil to make clean up easier. We still have to wash the pan but it comes clean easier. When you cook chicken right on the baking pan it leaves a film that is hard to get off.

    Storage

Store leftover chicken in an airtight container for 4 or 5 days. We make this chicken for our lunches almost every single Sunday and eat it the entire week. It stays good and we have never had an issue. As long as your fridge is at the right temperature you should be good to go.
