Maple Syrup Coffee recipe (hot or iced) is super easy. Lee and I are definitely coffee drinkers and we love all the different fancy coffee recipes that we can make at home. Okay, so maybe not as fancy as what you get out but fancy enough for us.
I rarely get coffee at a coffee shop because it is a little bit too strong for me so I have to add tons of sweetener and milk. And while I do love them they send my blood sugar levels through the roof. Plus, we save a ton of money. This way I can buy more nail polish. (I think that I have a nail polish addiction.)
We drink more hot coffee than iced coffee but because we have hot weather from June – August (or longer) here in Kansas some days we just want a refreshing cold drink and this is perfect for that.
I don’t have a milk frother so for this recipe I use a glass jar with a lid to make frothy milk. We us a mason jar because I have like four different sizes in my cupboard, but you could certainly repurpose a jelly jar and lid for this.
Ingredients

Ingredients List
Coffee – we have a favorite brand, use your favorite coffee.
Milk – we use whole milk because that is what we have on hand.
Pure Maple Syrup – real maple syrup has such good flavor. Lee didn’t think he liked maple but what he wasn’t a fan of is pancake syrup. Once we started buying the real deal he realized he actually loves maple.
How to Make Hot Maple Coffee
- Brew strong coffee, you will need six ounces for one cup.
- Put the maple syrup in the bottom of a coffee cup. Pour hot coffee over it and give it a stir.
- Microwave milk in a glass jar for 30 – 60 seconds or until hot. Put the lid on and shake vigorously until the milk is frothy then pour into cup of coffee.
How to Make Iced Maple Coffee
- Brew strong coffee, mix maple syrup into hot coffee, let cool then pour over ice cubes.
- Put cold milk into a glass jar and shake vigorously until milk is frothy then pour into glass of coffee.
Differences Between our Hot Coffee and Iced Coffee
We find that the coffee flavor is stronger in iced coffee drinks so we double the amount of maple syrup we put into one glass of iced coffee.
Cold milk gets frothier than hot milk so you will end up with more in the iced coffee.
Alternative method
For hot coffee warm milk on the stove in a small saucepan over medium heat. Watch it closely because milk tends to scald and/or boil over quickly.
Substitutions & Additions
Add a splash of vanilla extract.
Top with dash of ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg or allspice.
If you want a stronger maple flavor then add a little maple flavoring into the cup of coffee, like maybe, one-half to one teaspoon. We find the maple syrup is sufficient for us. Find what you like best.
Use your milk of choice; almond milk, oat milk, and soy milk would all be great options to make this dairy free.
You can use instant coffee for this.
Is maple syrup better than sugar in your coffee?
According to Livestrong maple syrup contains some micronutrients such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium making it slightly better for you than refined sugar. And, according to The Commons “maple syrup has a lower glycemic index than sugar, which means it does not raise blood sugar levels as much”.
What is the difference between flavored coffee and a latte?
You can make homemade latte but this recipe is not a latte. Lattes have equal parts espresso, steamed milk and foam. Our Maple Syrup Coffee recipe has about three-quarters regular coffee and one-quarter milk that we make a light foam out of. Espresso is thicker and much stronger than coffee.
We hope you like our Maple Syrup Coffee recipe (hot or iced) as much as we do. It is a simple recipe and you can always have everything on-hand you need to make it.
