Strong hot coffee is poured over white chocolate and sugar cookie-flavored syrup and then it’s topped with milk that’s been warmed up and shaken until it is nice and frothy. This easy recipe is made using everyday ingredients and no special equipment! The best part is that you can make this any time of year.

Are you like me and like drinking festive drinks all year long? Then you have come to the right place. Not only can we enjoy these drinks whenever we want, but we also save a ton of money—which makes me very happy!

    Ingredients

See recipe card for exact amounts.

A pot of coffee, bottle of sugar cookie syrup, bottle of milk and small bowl of white chocolate chips to make the Starbucks Sugar Cookie Latte Recipe.

    Ingredient Notes

strong coffee – if available Starbucks Holiday Blend can be used, but if you want to make this any time of the year just use your favorite coffee.

milk – we usually use whole milk because it foams up nicely just by shaking it in a mason jar. Non dairy milk such as oat milk, soy milk, almond milk, coconut milk or cashew milk can be used.

white chocolate chips – this is made of cocoa butter, sugar, milk powder and other flavorings and gives the sugar cookie latte the sweet buttery taste you find in sugar cookies.

sugar cookie syrup – we make a simple 3-ingredient homemade version of this, see recipe below.

Overhead shot of two glass mugs filled with Starbucks Sugar Cookie Latte with a few white chips next to them.

How to make a Sugar Cookie Latte

    1. Place a bit of sugar cookie syrup on one plate and sanding sugar or festive sprinkles on another plate. Dip the rim of the coffee mug in sugar cookie syrup and then sanding sugar, this is optional.
    2. Place white chocolate chips and sugar cookie simple syrup in the bottom of a coffee mug, pour hot coffee over them and stir until melted.
    3. Warm the milk in a mason jar in the microwave for about 45 seconds to 1 minute, depending on your microwave. Put the lid on and shake vigorously to create frothy milk (or use a milk frother if you have one). Pour over the coffee mixture and enjoy!

To make an iced sugar cookie latte you will need to melt the chocolate chips in a small amount of hot coffee and add the remaining cold coffee, cold milk, sugar cookie syrup, and ice. Froth the milk in a glass jar with a lid just like if it were hot milk.

To melt the white chocolate chips in the microwave, make sure you use a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for 15 seconds, then stir. If needed, heat for another 15 seconds, being careful not to overheat.

How to make homemade sugar cookie syrup

    1. Combine 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan and heat over high heat until boiling. Reduce to medium heat and stir until the sugar dissolves, about 2-3 minutes.
    2. Take off the heat and add the 1 teaspoon almond extract and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
    3. Allow to cool to room temperature and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about a month(a portion of it can be used in a hot drink right after it’s made).

Find a detailed post here, and be sure to check out the Ingredients for homemade sugar cookie syrup section for variations on this recipe.

    Tips

    • Make this exactly the way you like it by adding more or less white chocolate chips or sugar cookie syrup to your taste.
    • When warming milk in the microwave, it will need to be checked every 15-30 seconds so it doesn’t boil over. Also be careful and use a pot holder when handling the mason jar with hot milk in it.

    Variations

    • Instead of using a mason jar to shake the milk you can use a handheld milk frother if you have one.
    • Swap the strong coffee for a couple of espresso shots for a bolder, richer drink.
    • Add a sprinkle of cinnamon.
    • Top with whipped cream and more sprinkles (you can’t have too much of either of those things, can you?).

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can this be made with decaf coffee?

Absolutely! We make it all the time if we want to enjoy it later in the day.

What can be used instead of white chocolate chips?

Almond bark of vanilla melts can be used but it will need to be melted first with a little butter, oil or coconut oil. Do this in the bottom of the coffee mug before you add the syrup and hot coffee.

Can I use store-bought sugar cookie syrup?

Yes, although it may not be readily available at your local grocery store it’s available online at Amazon (not an affiliate link, just showing you what it is).
