Coffee + Ice Cream = Chick-fil-A Frosted Coffee

Chick-fil-A frosted coffee is made with cold brew coffee and vanilla ice cream, creating a creamy, milkshake-like coffee drink. This easy copycat recipe comes together in minutes—no blender needed.

Since it’s hand-spun, I mix mine by hand for the best texture (and less cleanup). It’s basically a coffee milkshake—so good!

What is a Frosted (or Frozen) Coffee?

A frosted coffee, sometimes called a frozen coffee, is a coffee drink blended with ice cream, similar to a milkshake. It’s sweet, creamy, and typically served cold.

What is in a Frosted Coffee From Chick-fil-A?

Chick-fil-A’s Frosted Coffee is made with their cold-brewed coffee and vanilla Icedream®, which gives it a lighter, softer texture than traditional ice cream-based drinks.

Does Chick-fil-A Frosted Coffee have caffeine?

Yes, Chick-fil-A frosted coffee does contain caffeine since it’s made with their brewed coffee and vanilla ice cream. If you’re making it at home, you can easily use regular or decaf coffee depending on your preference.

How much Caffeine is in Chick-fil-A Frosted Coffee?

The exact amount varies by size, but it’s similar to a small cup of coffee. If you want less caffeine, you can easily make it with decaf at home.

    Is Chick-fil-A Frosted Coffee strong?

It’s not as strong as regular coffee because the ice cream dilutes the flavor. It’s more like a lightly sweetened, creamy coffee drink than a bold cup of coffee.

The ice cream and a mason jar with cold brew coffee to make the Best Easy Copycat Chick-fil-A Frosted Coffee Recipe.

    Ingredient Notes

    • Cold Brew Coffee: We make our own cold-brewed coffee concentrate (it’s an easy recipe using just regular coffee grounds, water, and a mason jar!) but you could certainly use store bought. Or even brewed strong coffee that’s cooled down.
    • Ice Cream: We use Blue Bunny Soft Vanilla because it is the closest substitute for Chick-fil-A’s Icedream.

How to Make a Frosted Coffee

    1. Put the ice cream and coffee in a large measuring cup or other pitcher.
    2. Mix by hand with a large spoon until the mixture is the consistency of a milkshake.
    3. Pour into a tall glass and enjoy!

Recipe Note – as you can see in the photos our frosted coffee is much lighter than the restaurant version. That is because our ice cream is white. If you use an ice cream that is more yellowish it will change the overall color of the finished drink.

    Optional Garnishments

Top with whipped cream then chocolate shavings, or a drizzle of chocolate syrup, white chocolate sauce, or caramel sauce.

A collage of three images showing the ice cream in a measuring cup, then with the coffee added and with it all mixed together.

Other Flavors of Ice Cream to use in Frosted Coffee

French vanilla ice cream or chocolate ice cream would be delicious. For intense coffee flavor coffee ice cream can be used.

What Ice Cream Should I Use if I Can’t Find Blue Bunny Soft?

Any brand will work! If it is regular hard ice cream you can use more coffee to make it the right consistency. If you don’t want to add more coffee flavor you can use whole milk, 2% milk or low fat milk to thin it down.

How to Make Dairy Free Frosted Coffee

Breyers and So Delicious make dairy free ice cream. Then you can use the alternative milk of your choice, such as soy milk, oat milk, or almond milk.

One mason jar mug filled with Frosted coffee, there is a silver straw in it.
