These Cheddar Cheese Herb Scones are a healthy and delicious treat! Whether enjoyed on their own or as the perfect addition to any meal, they’re sure to impress. Made with just six simple ingredients like Heart Smart Bisquick, yogurt, an egg, and dried herbs, they’re a better-for-you alternative to traditional scones.

One scone sitting on top of another scone so the baked cheesy inside is visible.

These savory scones pair perfectly with my Healthier Slow Cooker Chicken Stew, Chicken Taco Soup, or Light & Creamy Potato Soup. They would also go great with a savory breakfast. For sweet scones try my Peach Yogurt Scones.

    Herb and Cheddar Scones

There’s nothing better than warm scones with hot soup! This recipe is wonderfully simple – you don’t need a food processor, rolling pin, pastry blender, or biscuit cutter. Plus, we’ve swapped butter for yogurt, making these herby cheese scones a guilt-free indulgence.

The best part? These scones are loaded with a generous amount of grated cheese and herbs, so you never have to sacrifice flavor.

    Ingredients

See recipe card for exact amounts and step-by-step instructions.

The Bisquick, cheese, yogurt, dried parsley, dill, and egg measured out and ready to make the Cheddar Cheese Herb Scones recipe.

    Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

    • Baking Mix: I use Bisquick Heart Smart baking mix for this recipe, but any regular biscuit mix will work.
    • Yogurt: We use plain, nonfat yogurt. Greek yogurt can also be used, though the texture will be slightly different.
    • Egg: Helps bind the ingredients together and ensures the scones rise beautifully.
    • Cheese: I prefer using pre-shredded cheese for convenience, but freshly grated cheese works just as well. Grated Parmesan, Monterey Jack, or Pepper Jack are all great alternatives if you’d like to mix things up.
    • Herbs: I use dried parsley and dill, but any combination of your favorite dried herbs works well. If using fresh herbs, substitute about 1/4 cup total.

How to Make Cheddar Herb Scones

    1. Preheat the oven to 425° and spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray or line with parchment paper.
    2. In a large bowl mix the Bisquick, cheese, parsley, and dill with a spoon until well combined.
    3. In a small bowl mix the yogurt and egg until well combined.
    4. Pour the yogurt mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined, taking care not to not over-mix the dough.
    5. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface, knead 4 or 5 times. Place onto the prepared baking sheet and pat out to a 9-inch round. Spray a knife with cooking spray and cut into 8 wedges. Do not separate.
    6. Bake for 11-14 minutes or until golden brown.

    Tips

    • Expect sticky dough: Don’t worry if the dough feels sticky—it’s normal!
    • Portion size: These scones can be cut into 8, 10, or 12 pieces, depending on how large you want them.
    • A little dry mix is okay: As shown in the photos, I had some dry mix on my hands when patting the scones out. This didn’t affect the texture, and my scones were still delicious.
