A white plate with several witches finger breadsticks and small bowl of marinara sauce on it.

Aren’t these spooky treats so much fun?! It’s such an easy halloween treat to make that you can get the kids involved too.

These are an awesome option when you need a fun halloween finger food. We served them with our Fun Halloween Charcuterie Board and pizza at our pumpkin carving party and they were a huge hit.

    Ingredients

See recipe card for exact amounts.

A can of pizza dough, butter, parmesan cheese, salami, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning needed to make the Easy to Make Halloween Witches Fingers Recipe.

    Ingredient Notes

pizza dough – I use the kind in the can, it as the perfect texture to make these.

salami – we cut little salami rounds into 8 pieces. It’s a great way to make a fingernail shape using a savory ingredient that goes well with bread sticks.

parmesan cheese – I grate it fresh off the block but the pre-shredded type would be great. It makes our witch’s fingers look kind of hairy.

butter – unsalted butter is what we use. Margarine or plant based butter can be used.

garlic powder – this gives our butter nice flavor.

Italian seasoning – this also gives the butter nice flavor and gives our fingers a sort of dirty look you might expect a witch to have.

How to make witch finger breadsticks

    1. Preheat the oven to 400°. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or spray with non-stick cooking spray.
    2. Unroll the pizza crust and flatten it out. Using a pizza cutter, or sharp knife, cut it in half lengthwise and then into equal pieces. You will end up with 22 pieces.
    3. Fold each piece in half lengthwise and pinch it together. Gently stretch it into a long rope shape, then pinch one end to resemble a finger shape.
    4. Cut three small lines for the knuckles; one set of three just above where you will put the “fingernail” and one set of three about a third of the way from the opposite end of the first slits.
    5. Melt the butter in a small bowl (I do this in the microwave). Stir in the garlic powder and Italian seasoning. Brush onto the breadsticks using a pastry brush. Sprinkle with grated cheese.
    6. Cut the salami into eights and place one on the end of each finger, press it down firmly.
    7. Bake for 9-11 minutes or until golden brown.
    8. Serve with warm marinara or pizza sauce.

    Tips

    • To melt butter in the microwave, without it splattering all over the place and making a mess, do it in 10 second intervals. You can also stop it before it’s completely melted and stir it to melt it the rest of the way. I am not a fan of cleaning butter splatters out of the microwave.
    • Be sue to pinch the edges together well or the sticks will come apart during baking.
    • I find the best way to cut the slits for the knuckles is with my sharp kitchen scissors. You can use a very sharp knife.
    • Shiny or dark pans may result in a different cook time. Baked goods brown faster on dark pans.

    Substitutions

    • If you don’t have salami you can use pepperoni, or an olive or bell pepper cut to look like a fingernail. Even slivered almond or whole almonds. Pretty much anything edible that you can make a fingernail shape out of.
    • You could add a small amount of green or red food coloring to the butter mixture. Green to resemble a witch’s finger or red to resemble blood.
    • If you are making these for an adult party you can spice them up a bit by adding a little cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to the butter mixture.

    Storage and reheating

While these are better enjoyed fresh they can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for a few days. Reheat in the microwave.
