Sausage & Apple Hand Pies are a fun and tasty snack with the perfect amount of savory and sweet!

I love using fruit in savory dishes like these Sausage & Apple Hand Pies. It adds a nice depth of flavor and is sometimes unexpected.

Sausage & Apple Hand Pies are made with ground sausage, apples, celery, and canned biscuits for a tasty mini hand held snack that is so easy to make!

    Pork and apples are classic.

I’m reminded of my childhood. I remember my brothers saying “pork chops and applesauce”.

And they said it in a funny way. Applesauce was kind of drawn out.

It made me wonder where that came from. So I googled it and learned that it actually comes from an episode of The Brady Bunch that aired in 1971!

Talk about a blast from the past.

We chose to use canned biscuits for this recipe because they are so sturdy. They also make this recipe easier.

I think homemade biscuits would be hard to use in this application. A yeast dough would also work but I wanted to make them quick and easy.

There is nothing wrong with taking help from the grocery store every now and then. Right?!

How to make Sausage & Apple Hand Pies:

    1. Preheat oven to 400°. Spray a rimmed sheet pan with cooking spray.
    2. In a medium skillet cook one-half pound of ground pork sausage, one-half cup of chopped apple, one-quarter cup of chopped onion and one-quarter cup of chopped celery over medium heat until pork is brown and apples, celery and onion are tender, about 8 – 10 minutes.
    3. Roll ten biscuit (from two-six ounce cans of five biscuits each) into 4 ½″ to 5″ rounds. Place about 2 tablespoons of sausage apple mixture onto half of each rolled biscuit. Fold over filling and press edges with a fork. Place on baking sheet and bake 12 – 15 minutes or until golden. Brush with melted butter after they come out of the oven.

Can’t wait to try these! I have everything but the celery and may try them that way. I can make my own biscuit dough as the last can I had was evidently older than I thought and I found it exploded in the refrigerator the other day. These will be so good while hibernating in the house!
