Healthier Chocolate Cake from Dr. Oz combines a boxed chocolate cake mix with bananas and Greek Yogurt to make a healthier version of cake.
If you are like me, you indulged a little bit over the holidays and now you are trying to make better food choices. This Healthier Chocolate Cake from Dr. Oz will help you do just that.
I ran across this recipe a few months ago and have been meaning to try it. When it comes to cake, I actually prefer it without frosting, so I chose not to put any on this cake.
You could certainly look for a healthier version of frosting, or use regular frosting.
Some great topping ideas for this cake are whipped topping, ice cream, or fresh fruit.
This Healthier Chocolate Cake from Dr. Oz would also be great as a poke cake or trifle with pudding, fruit, and whipped cream.
This recipe isn’t exactly like the one on the Dr. Oz website, but it uses all the same ingredients.
The instructions on the website said to use 1/2 – 1 banana, but also said to use a half a banana per egg. So I used 1 1/2 bananas because my cake mix called for 3 eggs.
Their instructions were a little contradictory, so I improvised.
The website also said to use 3/4 cup Greek yogurt for every 1 cup of oil. Well, my cake mix called for a half cup of oil, and that is why I came up with 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons of Greek yogurt.
It was the closest I could come to half of 3/4 cup and make it in measurements that made sense.
I was curious as to how this cake would turn out and was pleasantly surprised that it came out so well.
I suppose you can taste a hint of banana, but there is no indications of the Greek yogurt in the flavor. The texture was really good.
You could totally trick people into eating better with this cake. (Sometimes as a caring wife and mother we have to do that!)
Pumpkin Sheet Cake is another healthier version of cake I make.

I didn’t think there was anything that could come out of the mind and or mouth of Dr. Oz that I’d care about… I stand corrected. Thanks!
