Ingredient Notes
Just a handful of simple ingredients are all you need to make this easy recipe.
ravioli – we prefer cheese ravioli but you can use your favorite kind.
olive oil – we love olive oil in this recipe but you could use any high-heat oil such as avocado oil, vegetable oil, or canola oil. There is a great article here that gives the smoke point of various oils.
Italian seasoning – gives our toasted ravioli great flavor.
salt – we like the saltiness this adds, you can leave it out if you don’t want the added sodium.
Parmesan cheese – I like to use freshly grated cheese because it is a great way to add toasty cheesy goodness to your ravioli. Pre-shredded cheese is also a good option.
dipping sauce – we usually use pizza sauce for dipping, see some other suggestions below.
Does ravioli need to be boiled before frying?
It is not necessary to boil the ravioli before frying them. Frying ravioli without pre-boiling them results in a crispy exterior and warm interior. This cooking method results in a delicious and crispy appetizer or snack.
How to make air fried ravioli
- Mix the oil, Italian seasoning and salt in a large bowl. Add the ravioli into the oil mixture and toss to evenly coat the ravioli with the seasoned oil.
- Add the cheese and toss to coat as evenly as possible.
- Place ravioli into the air fryer basket and air fry at 380° for 3 minutes, shake and cook an additional 3 minutes or until crispy and golden brown.
Tips
- I use refrigerated ravioli, if using frozen ravioli they will need to be thawed first.
- When you air fry ravioli without bread crumbs they are crispy on the edges and soft in the middle where the filling is. If you want them to be crispier, more like pasta chips, you will need to increase the cook time a couple of minutes.
- As you can see in the photo my ravioli are mostly in a single layer but do overlap a little here and there.
- Since air fryers cook differently I recommend checking the ravioli after 2-3 minutes before shaking them, then adjust the cooking time up or down if necessary.
Dipping sauce ideas for crispy air fried ravioli
- marinara sauce
- Alfredo sauce
- pizza sauce
- pesto
- cheese sauce
- Ranch dressing
- creamy garlic sauce or aioli
Storage and reheating
I recommend making these fresh because it is so quick and easy. That being said, if you have leftover fried ravioli store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for a few days. They can be warmed in the microwave for a few seconds or in the air fryer in about 3-4 minutes.
