Perfect Copycat Waffle House Cheese Eggs Recipe – cheese and eggs are cooked in melted butter and the end results is cheesy eggs that are so delicious!

A plate of cheese eggs sitting on a pastel floral napkin with the recipe title in text so the image can be pinned.

Sadly, we don’t have Waffle House restaurants in our area. They seem to be mostly in the south central to southeastern United States but they are literally all around me. I just don’t get it because there is one about 130 miles to the south of us and there is one about 180 miles northeast of us, plus some east and west of us. It looks like they forgot us and I am wondering just who I need to talk to about this! I mean, they are to the north, south, east and west of us but somehow they forgot to put at least one here in Wichita. Baffling!

This is One of Those Viral TikTok Recipes

Have you seen the TikTok of the Waffle House worker showing everyone exactly how to make authentic Waffle House cheese eggs? You can check it out over at Delishably. The waffle house grill operator cooks 2 eggs in what looks to be a stainless steel pan and then lets 2 slices of real American cheese melt in a small cast iron skillet. Then they add the cooked scrambled eggs onto the melty cheese. Yummy!

One serving of cheesy eggs on a white plate that is sitting on a floral napkin.

When I decided to make these eggs at home I wanted to make an easier version than the original recipe. You see, I only want to dirty one pan and I want it to be the same whether I am making eggs for one or many. So I have come up with my own method to make Waffle House eggs. There really isn’t a right way to cook something. As long as you are happy with the end result then that is what matters.

A close up shot of half of the white oblong plate of cheese eggs.

    Ingredients

See recipe card for exact amounts.

Two slices of cheese, two eggs, a tablespoon of butter, salt and pepper shakers and part of the small skillet used to cook the cheese eggs.

    Ingredient Notes

All you need are 3 ingredients plus salt and pepper, that’s it!

Eggs – we use large eggs for this.

Cheese – two slices of American cheese is what you need. This is important because American cheese gets all melty.

Butter – we like unsalted butter for this.

Salt & Pepper – use as much or as little as you like.

How to Make Our Copycat Version of Delicious Cheese Eggs

    1. Add butter to a small nonstick skillet over medium heat, when the butter melts place cheese slices into the hot pan and let melt slightly.
    2. Beat eggs in a small bowl and add to the pan on top of the melted cheese, continue cooking stirring constantly to keep the texture of the eggs smooth and creamy and to prevent overcooking.

We like our eggs to be soft scrambled, you can cook the eggs to the doneness you like. Also keep in mind that there is yummy melted cheese in there so they will be sort of wet looking.

Two beaten eggs in a white bowl with the fork that was used to beat them in the bowl also.

What kind of cheese does Waffle House use in their eggs?

It is important to use a good sliced cheese that will melt properly. Sliced American cheese is the best option.

Make Perfect Copycat Waffle House Cheese Eggs Recipe For One or Many

I make this dish for one person by using 1 tbsp butter, 2 slices of cheese and 2 eggs in a small skillet. We also make this for 2 – 6 people by increasing the amount of everything we use. Just remember that for every egg you need 1 slice of cheese and ½ tablespoon of butter and this can be made in any size frying pan.

Idk which waffle house gave you this recipe but tastes nothing like the ones we eat. All we could taste was butter. Our local waffle house uses very little butter, then pours the eggs on the griddle and about a minute or two before they’re done they place the cheese slices on top, and squirt some water on the griddle (to create steam and help the cheese melt) then cover the eggs so the cheese melts.

Thanks for sharing your experience! There may be some regional variation, but the recipe I shared is based on an actual Waffle House employee’s method—linked in the post for anyone curious. If the butter flavor came through strong, it might be the type used, since different brands can vary. Personally, I’ll take rich, buttery eggs over watery steamed ones any day. But hey—sounds like you already know how to make them!

My husband eats Waffle House cheesy eggs once a week. He tried these and said “You’re a better Marcus than Marcus”, meaning his Waffle House cook. 😉
