Waffle House cooks their eggs over melted American cheese instead of mixing the cheese into the eggs. This easy one-pan version uses the same idea while simplifying the process for home cooks, so you get the same creamy, cheesy eggs with less cleanup.

Ingredient Notes
All you need are 3 ingredients plus salt and pepper, that’s it!
- Eggs: I use two large eggs per person.
- American cheese: White or yellow American cheese both work. Deli-sliced American melts the smoothest, but Kraft Singles are a great option too.
- Butter: Unsalted butter is my preference, but margarine also works.
- Salt & pepper: Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
How to Make Waffle House Cheese Eggs
- Melt the butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat, then add the American cheese and let it begin to melt.
- Pour the beaten eggs over the cheese.
- Gently stir until the eggs are softly scrambled and the cheese is melted throughout.
We like our eggs soft scrambled, but you can cook them to your preferred doneness. The melted American cheese keeps them extra creamy, so they’ll look slightly softer than traditional scrambled eggs.
Tips for Making Waffle House Cheese Eggs
- Use medium heat so the eggs don’t cook too quickly.
- Don’t overcook the eggs for the creamiest texture.
- American cheese melts best for a smooth, creamy finish.
- Remove the eggs from the heat just before they’re fully cooked—they’ll continue cooking from the residual heat.
What Kind of Cheese Does Waffle House Use in Their Eggs?
Waffle House uses sliced American cheese. For homemade cheese eggs, deli American or Kraft Singles both melt well and give you the same creamy, melty result.
Why Are Waffle House Cheese Eggs So Creamy?
Waffle House melts American cheese before adding the eggs, which creates a rich, creamy texture. Cooking the eggs gently over medium heat and removing them from the heat before they’re fully set also helps keep them soft.
Make Waffle House Cheese Eggs for One or a Crowd
This recipe is easy to scale up or down. I use 2 eggs, 2 slices of American cheese, and 1 tablespoon of butter per person. For larger batches, simply multiply the ingredients and use a larger skillet.

perfect copycat and thank you!
You’re welcome, thanks for commenting and reviewing!
Idk which waffle house gave you this recipe but tastes nothing like the ones we eat. All we could taste was butter. Our local waffle house uses very little butter, then pours the eggs on the griddle and about a minute or two before they’re done they place the cheese slices on top, and squirt some water on the griddle (to create steam and help the cheese melt) then cover the eggs so the cheese melts.
Thanks for sharing your experience! Different Waffle House locations may prepare their eggs a little differently. This recipe is my easy one-pan version inspired by the restaurant, so it’s meant to recreate the flavor while simplifying the process for home cooks. Feel free to adjust the butter or cooking method to match your local Waffle House.
My husband eats Waffle House cheesy eggs once a week. He tried these and said “You’re a better Marcus than Marcus”, meaning his Waffle House cook. 😉
That’s awesome, I’m glad he likes them!
