This copycat IHOP butter pecan syrup is made with just two ingredients and tastes just like the restaurant favorite. Simply stir pecan flavoring into butter-flavored pancake syrup for an easy homemade syrup that’s perfect for pancakes, waffles, French toast, and more.
The only specialty ingredient is pecan flavoring. While it isn’t always available at grocery stores, it’s easy to order online or find at specialty baking or candy-making shops.

Why You’ll Love This Butter Pecan Syrup
- Only 2 ingredients
- No cooking required
- Tastes like IHOP butter pecan syrup
- Ready in minutes
- Works with regular or sugar-free syrup
What are the Ingredients in IHOP Butter Pecan Syrup?
Corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, water, salt, natural and artificial flavor, potassium sorbate, sodium hexametaphosphate, and caramel color. This is very similar to the ingredients in any store bought maple flavored syrup.
The only specialty ingredient is pecan flavoring. It can be harder to find in grocery stores, but it’s easy to order online or find at specialty baking shops. I use LorAnn Super-Strength Pecan Flavor because it gives this syrup authentic butter pecan flavor without adding chopped pecans.

Ingredient Notes
- Butter Flavored Pancake Syrup: Any brand works. Use regular or sugar-free butter-flavored syrup.
- Pecan Flavoring: LorAnn Super Strength Pecan Flavor is highly concentrated, so a little goes a long way.
How to Make Butter Pecan Syrup
- Pour 2 cups of butter flavored syrup into a measuring cup, add ¾ teaspoon of pecan flavoring and stir to combine.
- Serve over buttermilk pancakes, other flavored pancakes or French toast.
This is more of a guideline of how much pecan flavoring to use for 2 cups of syrup. If you want to make more or less syrup then just adjust the amount used accordingly. To flavor an entire 24 ounce bottle of syrup you would use about 1 – 1 ¼ teaspoons of flavoring.
Top Tip
This flavoring is very concentrated, so start with a little and add more to taste. You can always add more, but you can’t take it out.

Storage & Shelf Life
Store in an airtight container at room temperature just like pancake syrup. It will keep as long as whichever ingredient expires first.
