You are going to love this easy Air Fryer Pigs in a Blanket recipe! I have perfected this recipe so these will come out perfect for you every time.
The first time I made these they were barely edible. The hot dog was overcooked and the crescent dough was undercooked.
Not only that, the dough seeped through the holes in the air fryer basket and so it was pretty much non existent on the bottom. They were a mess! So I made a few adjustments and the next time I made them they came out great.
The first time I thought I could use one whole crescent roll per hot dog but that is too much dough and it takes much longer to cook than the hot dog. So the next time I made them I cut the dough into 1 1/2″ strips. This worked much better.
You need the hot air to circulate around them so they get nice and golden brown so I decided to put small pieces of parchment paper under each individual pigs in a blanket. This prevented the dough from going through the holes while still allowing the air to get around them.
Also, when I was wrapping the dough around the hot dog the first time I had the thought that the hot dogs were too wet and I should dry them off, but I didn’t. It is one of those times when I should have went with my instinct. I do think that the moisture contributed to the dough not being present on the underside of the air-fried crescent dogs.
With all of these adjustments it is still and easy recipe that produces a tasty snack worthy of a place on your table. You are welcome!

Ingredient Notes
crescent roll dough – the grocery store we shop at carries the crescent dough sheets so that is what we use. You can use regular crescent rolls, see notes below about this.
hot dogs – I like to use the plumpest ones I can find at the store.
condiments for dipping – our favorite dipping sauces are ketchup and mustard mostly, see below for dipping sauce ideas.
How to make this easy pigs in a blanket recipe
- Roll out the crescent roll sheet on a cutting board. If using the actual crescent rolls do not pull them apart instead pinch the perforations together. Using a pizza cutter slice the sheet along the narrow end in about 1 1/2 inch strips.
- Pat the wieners dry with paper towels. Wrap one strip of dough around each hot dog by starting at one end and spiraling the dough around it. Gently press the dough so it closes any gaps and is around the hot dog as evenly as possible.
- Spray the air fryer basket lightly with cooking spray where you are going to put the parchment paper (you can skip this step if desired, see note in the tips section below). Cut parchment paper strips a little bit bigger than the wrapped hot dog and place them in the air fryer basket.
- Air fry on 350° for 5 minutes or until they are golden brown and the hot dog is hot.
Tips
- If using crescent rolls (and not crescent sheets) you will need to pinch the perforations together.
- Be sure to pat the hot dogs dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture.
- When I cut the crescent roll sheet I got 9 strips so I didn’t use one. I didn’t want too much dough because it will take longer to cook than the hot dog.
- Pigs in a blanket need to be placed in the air fryer basket in a single layer and leaving a bit of space between them. I cook 4 at a time.
- I spray the inside of the basket with a small amount of cooking spray where I am putting the parchment paper so it will not move around while I am putting the wrapped hot dog in. You can skip this step if you want, my parchment paper kept rolling up on me and was annoying.
- This recipe uses full size hot dogs and not mini hotdogs, cocktail franks or mini sausage. The cook time on those will be different.
Substitutions & Variations
You can use pizza dough if you can’t find crescents.
I do not recommend using puff pastry dough for this particular recipe because it is different than buttery crescent rolls and I don’t know how long it takes to cook.
You can use cheese hot dogs to make cheesy pigs in a blanket.
Brush the tops of the pigs in a blanket with melted butter and sprinkle with bagel seasoning or other seasoning blends.
Dipping sauce ideas for pigs in a blanket
